Swelling. Redness, tenderness, itchiness and swelling are common reactions to infection. Swelling can also increase pain by constricting the ear canal. Burning sensations may be felt within the ear or along the neck. Ear infections may be located internally, but many people with an infection often report sensitivity to touch around the ear.
