Muscle Spasms. Muscle spasms and or twitches in multiple sclerosis are abrupt muscle contractions and movements triggered by miscommunication between the muscle cells, nerve cells, and brain. Muscle spasms are very common in those with multiple sclerosis and can be intermittent or constant. It is often described as an involuntary stiffness or involuntary painful jerking movements of the arms and legs.
