Treatment. If the nerve pain is caused by another condition, like diabetes or cancer, then treating that condition may relieve the nerve pain. The pain may even indicate a complication with the underlying disease. But treatment is not always as simple as taking a different approach to the underlying cause. Sometimes nerve pain requires its own independent therapy. A doctor will look at the patient’s medical history and list of current medications before determining the best route to ease nerve pain.
