Surgery. Surgery for ulcers is rare, but they include vagotomy and pyloroplasty. In vagotomy, the surgeon cuts branches of the vagus nerve to stop the stomach from producing too much acid. In a pyloroplasty, the surgeon enlarges the duodenum opening. This allows food to pass more easily into the small intestine. It’s sometimes combined with a vagotomy.
