Earaches often begin due to an infection, but there are many other causes of ear pain. Sinus problems, blockages in the ear canal and even misalignments in the neck could also be the cause of chronic ear pain. An earache does not have to mean a visit to the doctor is unavoidable. Many at-home, natural solutions can eliminate the discomfort.
Pain Relievers. The only thing people want when an earache begins is to stop the pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help to take away mild to moderate ear pain quickly. Any medication given to children under the age of two should have the approval of their pediatrician for safety reasons. Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen work well for this type of pain. Aspirin can aid in the relief of ear pain too, but it is not safe for children 16 and under. Never take more than recommended on the bottle packaging. If pain persists despite the use of medication, seek out a drug-free solution to avoid overdose or side effects.
