Contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis happens when the person touches an irritant or something that they’re allergic to. As with eczema, the rash is red, swollen and itchy. It develops blisters that break open, weep, crust or scale over. There are two types of contact dermatitis: allergic and irritant, with the irritate type being more common. It happens when the skin is damaged by being exposed to an irritant such as a harsh cleanser. Neither eczema nor contact dermatitis can be spread from person to person.
