Treatments can be very upsetting to kids and they are a hassle for grownups. Lice can spread from hair to furniture and bedding almost as easily as they can spread from head to head. Almond or olive oil. Work a generous amount of one of these oils into the hair. There needs to be an even and thick coating from the scalp all the way to the ends. This will immobilize the critters so they can be removed more easily. After coating the hair, slowly work the hair from scalp to ends with a very fine toothed comb. Wipe or rinse the comb after every stroke to get the lice off of it. As an added bonus, these oils deeply condition the hair.
