Known to be the most prevalent kind of anemia, iron deficiency anemia happens as a result of the body having an inadequate amount of the essential mineral called iron. Hemoglobin is the protein that carries and delivers oxygen to all of the body tissues. Anemia is the term used to characterize low levels of hemoglobin in the body’s red blood cells. The human body is unable to produce adequate levels of hemoglobin without sufficient levels of iron.
Information. Iron deficiency anemia happens when the body cannot create enough red blood cells or hemoglobin to bind to the oxygen an individual breathes in. This means that oxygen does not get to the tissues around the body. It is typically diagnosed using a blood test, and treated with iron supplements, dietary changes, and or intravenous iron infusions. Depending on what is causing the iron deficiency, it can be a short term condition or it could be a lifelong condition that must be effectively managed. The most common symptoms that those who are deficient of iron will experience are fatigue, palpitations, headache, pica, pale complexion, nausea, and shortness of breath.
