The Causes, Symptoms and Types of Seizures

Seizures can be dramatic or subtle depending on the patient and the part of the brain involved. When the central nervous system works properly, electrical impulses travel back and forth from the outer nerves to the brain. Within the brain, neurons also communicate by passing electrical impulses. A seizure is a sign that something has gone wrong in the transmission that is causing unusual electrical activity in the brain. This may cause the brain to fail to send proper signals, making the patient seem frozen. It may cause the brain to send erratic signals causing jerking, tremors and movements that are out of control.

Information. Seizures can be the product of many conditions, anything that might temporarily interrupt the proper function of the brain. Once a seizure has passed, it is important to get medical attention. Whether a seizure is major or minor, it should be investigated in order to discover the cause.
