The Causes, Symptoms and Types of Seizures

Types of seizures. There are three major categories of seizures. Temporary, non-epileptic seizures are a symptom of another condition affecting the brain, such as an illness with a high fever or a blow to the head. When the fever goes down or the injury heals, the seizures stop by themselves. Partial seizures can resemble a stroke in that they normally affect only half the brain, and symptoms are experienced in one half of the body. Generalized seizures indicate the involvement of the whole brain. The most common are grand mal seizures, the most dramatic seizures where the full body is engaged, and petit mal seizures, also known as absence seizures.
