The Causes, Treatment and an Overview of an Enlarged Spleen

Treatments. How an enlarged spleen is treated depends on what caused it in the first place. When the disease process that caused the splenomegaly is treated, the spleen should return to its normal size. However, sometimes this doesn’t happen. This can be seen in cancers of the spleen or a condition called hereditary spherocystosis, or HS. In these cases, the spleen, or part of it, needs to be removed surgically.
