The Diagnosis, Testing and Treatment of Epstein-Barr Virus

Treatment. There is no known cure for EBV. Because it is a virus, antibiotics will not help to clear up the infection. Symptoms of an EBV infection or mono will generally clear up on their own in a few weeks. In the meantime, a person can take steps to help the body heal. These include: getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated by drinking lots of water or other liquids, and taking over the counter pain pills to help relieve fevers and body aches. It is recommended that those recovering from an EBV infection take it easy when returning to work and/or school. It is also advisable to hold off on sports, heavy lifting and other types of vigorous activity for about one month. This will help to avoid the risk of a spleen injury.
