Stomach ulcers are painful, open sores that are found in the lining of the stomach. For a very long time it was believed that ulcers developed as a result of stress or spicy food, however, doctors now agree that ulcers develop as a result of either a bacterial infection called Helicobacter Pylori, or the prolonged use of over the counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like aspirin or Ibuprofen. Smoking has also been linked to ulcers.

Depending on the foods you eat, the ulcer can become irritated, and cause you pain and discomfort.
