The Signs and Symptoms, Causes and Treatment of Liver Cirrhosis

Causes. Many things can lead to cirrhosis of the liver, but it is mostly associated with alcohol abuse. People are at risk if they have chronic hepatitis or chronic autoimmune hepatitis where the their immune system is actually attacking their liver. Heart failure or vascular disease can cause cirrhosis, as can non-alcoholic fatty liver. This condition, also called NASH, is sometimes seen in people who are obese. Cirrhosis of the liver can be caused by too much iron or copper in the body, genetic factors, blocked or atrophied bile ducts, infections, drugs and poisons.
