Signs. In the early stages, the signs of tuberculosis resemble the flu. The patient is fatigued, has fever and chills and loses their appetite. In the middle stages, they start to suffer weight loss that gave the disease the other name of consumption. They have a productive cough whose sputum becomes bloody. This is accompanied by chills and low fever, night sweats, chest pain and difficulty breathing. Their nails may club, which is a sign that something is wrong with the lungs.
