The Symptoms and Causes of Vitiligo Skin Disease

Seeing a doctor. While there is no cure for vitiligo, there is still a benefit to seeing a doctor when the skin, hair, or eyes begin to lose coloring. Treatment may slow or even stop the spread of the discoloration and return some pigment to the skin. There are two main types of medications used to treat vitiligo including creams to control inflammation and medications that affect the immune system. The creams can help return some color to the skin if used soon after the disease begins. Other medications can be combined with light therapy and a substance called psoralen which helps return color to lightened patches. The newest therapy available combines ultraviolet-B light therapy and a medication called tofacitnib which is used to dampen the immune response in Rheumatoid arthritis.
