Types of Sleeping Disorders. Sleep disorders are typically categorized by which elements of one’s sleep are impacted. Those with insomnia have difficulty falling and remaining asleep throughout the night. Sleep apnea is another common type of sleep disorder, during which a person’s breathing patterns become abnormal or even temporarily stop completely. Restless legs syndrome can also disrupt sleep and is characterized by an uncomfortable sensation that causes the legs to move. Perhaps one of the most dangerous sleep disorders is narcolepsy. Those with this condition experience excessive and extreme sleepiness that can present suddenly and with immediate consequences.
