The Symptoms and Treatment of Scabies

Treatment. After being diagnosed by a physician, scabies is able to be treated with numerous medication types. Most often, a physician will prescribe a specialized lotion and or cream to apply to the entire body below the neck. The medication must stay on for at least 8 hours, so showering or swimming is not ideal. The most commonly prescribed medications for scabies include the topical solutions of Crotaminton or Eurax cream or lotion, and Permethrin or otherwise known as Elimite cream. More aggressive ways to treat scabies when other medications are ineffective or are not an option include a chemical treatment called Lindane lotion that is only suitable for those over the age of 10. Also, Ivermectin, otherwise known as Stromecol is an oral medication that can help individuals that had little or no success with other medications.
