The Symptoms, Causes and Treatment of Hashimoto Thyroiditis

Symptoms. Whenever a person has Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, it causes their thyroid to produce fewer hormones. So the symptoms that a person gets from the condition are the same as those that they would have if they had hypothyroidism. At first, there is a marked decrease in energy that never seems to get better no matter how much sleep a person gets. Next, there will be weight gain even if someone’s diet and exercise hasn’t changed. Dry skin and hair are also common, as is constipation. One of the most obvious signs of the condition is the size of the thyroid gland though. When the thyroid stops producing enough hormones, it will swell so that it can be easily seen in the front of the neck. Some may even develop goiters on the sides of the gland, which are tumors that may or may not be cancerous. The most dangerous symptom of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is low blood pressure. If it isn’t treated in time, it can lead to a heart attack, stroke, or death from organ failure.
