When a person does not get a normal night’s sleep, they run the risk of sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is where the body does not get enough total sleep. When someone has chronic sleep deprivation, they will experience a broad variety of symptoms. This includes clumsiness, weight gain or weight loss, daytime sleepiness, fatigue, and other symptoms.
Information. There are cases where sleep deprivation can actually lead to increased energy, alertness, and enhancement of overall functions. However, few studies have compared the effects between acute sleep deprivation and chronic partial sleep deprivation. Long-term sleep deprivation of animals that have been tested in the lab shown that death does occur as a result of extreme sleep separation.
