The Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment of a Bowel Obstruction

Symptoms. Symptoms of a bowel obstruction include cramping abdominal pain. The abdomen swells up with gas, but the patient cannot pass gas or stool. Some people with a partial obstruction only pass diarrhea or mucus that may be bloody. The person feels weak and dizzy and might faint. They also experience nausea and vomiting, and if the condition is not resolved, their vomit comes to resemble feces. They produce little urine or no urine at all because of fluid loss. In the early stages of the condition they can hear growling from their abdomen, but as time goes on the abdomen grows silent. They sometimes have a fever.
