Second Phase Symptoms. In the second phase of Kawasaki disease, the child’s skin, especially the skin of their extremities, begins to peel. Sometimes the skin comes off in sheets. The child also suffers from pain in their stomach and joints. They vomit and have diarrhea. Some children develop an enlarged spleen or liver, meningitis and middle ear inflammation. If the child’s heart is affected, they have a fast heart rate and lowered function in the lower chambers of their heart.
