The Symptoms, Treatment and Outlook of Cardiomyopathy

Treatment. A cardiologist will order tests to evaluate the type and extent of the cardiomegaly. These tests may include chest x-ray, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, cardiac catheterization, treadmill stress tests, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT scan, genetic screening, and blood tests. Based on the test results and assessment, treatments will be chosen to control/relieve symptoms, minimize the risk of complications, and prevent worsening of the condition. Treatments may include medications to improve the ability of the heart to pump blood, remove excess body fluid, and prevent blood clots.
