Wrinkles. Scientists discovered the power of Botox to soften wrinkles when they were using it to correct cross-eyes in rhesus monkeys. They noticed that when they injected the toxin around the monkey’s eyes, the eyes not only came into alignment, but the wrinkles around them smoothed out. In 2002, the FDA approved Botox for frown lines deemed moderate to severe. After this, it was approved for crow’s feet, and in 2017 it was approved to soften moderate to severe lines in the forehead, even though it had been used for this and other types of lines and wrinkles for several years.
