Risk Factors. There are many risk factors which can make someone predisposed to an enlarged heart. High blood pressure is one of the biggest risk factors and issues that causes it. Anyone with a blood pressure reading over 140/90 mm/Hg are very much at risk of an enlarged heart. Family history and genetics can also be a large risk factor. If family or direct family have had an enlarged heart in the past, then it’s likely that a person may get one as well.
One of the most common diseases which can cause a problem is coronary artery disease. This disease ensures the heart is under great stresses. In fact, part of the heart muscle can become quite damaged. When that is damaged, the rest of the heart enlarges as it tries to make up for the weak portion. Congenital heart disease is another disease that causes problems. People are born with this risk however.
