Symptoms. The vast majority of spider bites look exactly like bites caused by other pests or bugs. Most people notice the bite at first because it’s uncomfortable. The most common symptom is a red bump that might swell slightly. Most people feel an itching sensation around the area of the bite, but it’s important that it’s not scratched. Scratching a bite can cause it to open up, which can allow an infection to set in. Infection is often worse than the bite itself. If the spider that attacked was a non-venomous spider, there will be no other symptoms. The redness, swelling, and itching will subside after a few days without any medical treatment. Most people never know they were bitten by a spider, but they assume they were bitten by a mosquito or another type of bug while performing tasks or enjoying the outdoors.
